About Healthy Aperture

Healthy Aperture is a unique image-based recipe discovery platform. It is the only site of its kind moderated by registered dietitians and solely focused on healthy food blogs.

Basically, we expose the best of what’s healthy to eat on the web.

As the only food blog photo sharing site founded and hosted by registered dietitians, Healthy Aperture prides itself on publishing only the finest food imagery created by bloggers of healthy food.  The site was created by registered dietitians Regan Jones, and Janet Helm of Nutrition Unplugged.

Visitors to Healthy Aperture can browse recipes by page or Category. Clicking on an image title will provide visitors with additional information about the recipe, including Categories and sharing options. Clicking on the image transports visitors directly to the submitter’s blog where the full recipe can be found.

Bloggers wishing to showcase images on Healthy Aperture should first review our FAQs. Then, please feel free to Register with the site and start submitting.

Meet the Team

Our Editorial Team is made up of professionals who have experience in the fields of nutrition, recipe development, food styling and food photography. We only accept images that meet our standards in each of these areas. The goal is to celebrate the beauty and appeal of  healthy food and to showcase how taste and healthy can happily co-exist.

 

Regan Jones, RD - Owner, Founding Editor & Sponsorship Director

Regan Jones is registered dietitian and owner of ReganMillerJones, Inc. - a nutrition communications firm specializing in marketing, recipe development & photography, as well as social & traditional media relations. It is also the parent company of HealthyAperture.com, TheRecipeReDux.com and RDs4Disclosure.org. Jones, who began her career as an Assistant Editor at Cooking Light and Weight Watchers Magazines, has been featured in hundreds of television and radio segments nationwide. Self-described as a “registered dietitian by education, but food-lover by birth,” she enjoys traveling, reading and writing for The Healthy Aperture Blog. When not behind the computer or camera, you can find her enjoying life’s little indulgences from her home in Georgia with her husband and two young sons. 

Janet Helm, MS, RD - Co-Founder, Pinterest Curator & Features Editor - Trend Spotlight

Janet Helm is a registered dietitian who wears multiple hats – as a public relations executive, blogger and nutrition journalist.  Currently, she is the Chief Food and Nutrition Strategist in North America for Weber Shandwick, a global public relations firm. Janet is also the co-founder of Healthy Aperture, founder of Nutrition Blog Network and author of The Food Lover’s Healthy Habits Cookbook. She blogs at Nutrition Unplugged and for WedMD and is a former media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and nutrition, and a master’s degree in dietetics from Kansas State University. Janet lives in Chicago with her husband and 10-year-old twins.

 Lindsay Livingston, RD - Image Curator, Guest Blogger & Social Media Coordinator 

Lindsay is a Registered Dietitian, freelance writer, nutrition communications specialist and the author of the healthy living blog, The Lean Green Bean. She lives in Columbus, Ohio with her husband and their two dogs & two cats. She's addicted to social media, loves crossfit and can usually be found in the kitchen developing simple, healthy recipes! 

Carlene Thomas, RD - Image Curator

Carlene Thomas is a registered dietitian and nutrition consultant in Northern Virginia who specializes in working with women who are getting married and newlyweds. She loves to cook simple, seasonal food but never turns down a meringue. Outside of recipe development and blogging, one of Carlene's recent favorite activities is attending Kinfolk events and learning lost arts like preserving and creating herbal infusions.

Hannah is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian from Sydney, Australia and the Nutrition Communications Manager at Meat & Livestock Australia. Hannah is a foodie, lover of cooking and is a recipe and cookbook collector. She is passionate about communications and nutrition research and has a keen interest in social media, food styling and food photography.

Kristina LaRue, RD, LD/N - Instagram Curator & Features Editor - Athlete Eats

Kristina is a Registered & Licensed Sports dietitian for the Orlando Magic and University of Central Florida Athletics. She provides nutrition services for Tara Gidus Nutrition Consulting and works in the treatment of eating disorders with Joyful Nutrition. She is a co-author of The Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies and the blogger behind Love & Zest where she shares recipes, life, and nutrition. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and completed her dietetic internship at Oakwood University in 2011. .She loves running and training for marathons and triathlons, gardening, creating (mostly healthy) recipes, decorating, blogging, photography, and volunteering with the women’s recovery ministry at her church. On the weekends you can find her at the Farmer’s Market or a local coffee shop spending quality time with her husband, Eric.

Kristen Bourque, RD - Image Curator

Kristen Bourque, RD, LD began her career working at Children's Heart Center, a cardiac outpatient center and is currently employed at United Healthcare. She enjoys nutrition communications and has been featured in "Today's Dietitian" and the Canadian publication "Glow."  She has appeared on a popular local news morning show discussing various nutrition topics. Kristen combines her love of nutrition with cooking on her personal blog, Swanky Dietitian.

Gretchen Brown, RD - Features Editor - Gluten Free Kitchen

Gretchen F. Brown, R.D., is the founder of Kumquat Blog, a gluten-free blog devoted to the belief that gluten-free food can and should be easy to prepare, wholesome, and delicious enough for everyone.  She recently authored a cookbook, Fast & Simple Gluten-Free, featuring fresh and classic favorites in 30 minutes or less. Gretchen has worked in the test kitchens and photography studios of Oxmoor House and is now a freelance recipe developer, food stylist, food writer, and food photographer.  She has been gluten-free for several years, as a result of a lifetime of stomach pains and health problems. A military spouse for nearly 11 years, she lives with her husband, son, and daughter in Upstate New York.

Deanna Segrave-Daly, RD - Features Editor - Sweet Splurges

Deanna Segrave-Daly is a food-loving dietitian who writes, develops recipes and dabbles in food iPhoneography for her blog Teaspoon of Spice. Along with being the {Sweet Splurges} Features Editor at Healthy Aperture, she is also the co-founder of The Recipe ReDux. Her 6-year old daughter and picky eater husband keep her inspired to create appealing, good-for-you family cuisine.

Min Kwon - Features Editor - Make-Ahead Meals

Min is a dietetic intern, follower of Christ, and wife to the most wonderful man, who just so happens to be her faithful taste tester and the co-author of her blog. Once she came to know the life-altering power of food, she fell in love with the creative outlet known as cooking. Her goal is to take healthful ingredients often considered daunting and make them accessible to the average cook.  In her blog, she offers a glimpse into her journey of becoming an RD along with healthful tips and recipes.

Robin Plotkin, RD, LD is the founder and CEO at Robinsbite, Inc., a nutrition and culinary communications company in Dallas, TX. As a culinary nutritionist, she uses food as the vehicle to educate, inspire and improve confidence in the kitchen, which as a result, naturally leads to better health. Robin is an award winning culinary and nutrition expert and appears regularly in the national media and on-line through numerous social media channels. As a Dallas Morning News Health Blogger, she utilizes social media daily as a means to get her unique messages across to the general population, often highlighting her dietitian colleagues along the way. Robin is an executive board member of the Food and Culinary Practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is an advisory member for the Dallas-based Chefs for Farmers organization.

Kylie Held Mitchell - Features Editor - Global Garden

Kylie is the founder of Yeah…imma eat that, a healthy food blog where she shares recipes that are keeping her excited about healthy eating.  It was an irresistible love for food that encouraged the launch of the blog, however, along the way Kylie has found affection for food photography and recipe development.  She is currently a dietetic intern & MPH Candidate at The University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston.  When not cooking, you can find her instagramming her daily meals, working out in the early mornings and trying to convince her husband that they need a dog.

Kate Neale Cooper - Guest Post Coordinator and Features Editor - Buy the Book

A mother and avid runner, Kate has taken Mark Twain’s adage to heart and writes about what she knows: food, fitness, and motherhood. Kate began her editing career in book publishing but moved to magazines a few years later, eventually becoming the health and fitness editor at Weight Watchers Magazine. A contributing writer at Fit Pregnancy, Kate has also written for Coastal Living, Southern Living, Cooking Light, and TheWonderfactory. Kate lives with her husband and three children in Richmond, Virginia, where she packs 15 brown bag lunches a week and manages to put something healthy on the dinner table more often than not. She also has a blog, Fits + Starts, which focuses on the challenges of raising a child with epilepsy.
